This is my favorite Randy Newman song. 

Great melody, strong sentiment, and all those magic chord voicings. Suspensions on suspensions.

I learned how to play it a few weeks before I went to Montana last month. The other night decided to make a recording. Pulled the short-scale piano out into the center of my living room and talked my roommate into getting out his good camera. 

We did three takes and kept the last one.

Marie was recorded into an Apollo Twin. Vocal mic was a Mojave MA- 201FET. Piano mic a Sennheiser 935. Ran it into Logic via UA 610B channel strip => Teletronics LA-2A Leveler => Studer A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder.
